It is
hard to believe that we have completed the
first quarter of the 2009-2010 school year
and half-way through the second quarter.
Parents received report cards from their
child’s teacher at the Parent-Teacher
Conferences held October 13 & 14 and
hopefully parents took advantage of the
opportunity to meet with the teacher and
discuss their child’s progress.
Many
activities were held during the first
quarter of the school year. The band
presented their Royalty at the Glenpool
football game on September 18.
Congratulations to all band members, queen
attendants and the 2009 Band Queen, Ms.
Alice Wright.
Homecoming festivities were held on Friday,
October 9 with the pep assembly, downtown
parade and concluded with the football game
against Bristow at historic Harmon Field.
The All-Sports Queen candidates were
presented prior to the game and Ms. Heather
Kimbley was selected 2009 Okmulgee
All-Sports queen.
The
release of this year’s Oklahoma State
testing data showed that all Okmulgee School
sites made gains for student performance as
shown on the state Academic Performance
Indicator report (API). The middle school
had the highest API overall score reporting
at 1299, but the Primary and Elementary
showed the largest gains. Primary School
scores increased 345 points and the
Elementary scores increased 110 points.
High School scores increased 22 points for
the year. The overall district API score
increased over nine (9%) for the year. We
are proud of the increase but we also
realize that we must continue to strive
forward. Congratulations to all students
and staff for their achievement over the
year.
Congratulations to the 2009 Bulldog Football
team for qualifying for the class 3A
football state championship play-offs.
Good Luck BULLDOGS.
Also we
are proud of the accomplishments of all
athletic programs that competed during the
fall season at both the middle school and
high school. It is rewarding to see our
students who are members of the Junior
Football League compete as champions in
their own rights. CONGRATULATIONS.
Several
Okmulgee FFA students placed in different
categories of competition during the
Okmulgee County Fair held earlier this
year. By placing at the county fair, the
students earned the opportunity to move to
regional competition.
Thanks
to each organization that supports our
school system throughout the school year.
The Elks Lodge presented dictionaries to all
third graders and the fire department for
their efforts in keeping us safe with
programs during fire prevention week. Also
the Education Foundation, Viersen Family
Foundation and everyone that continues to
support Okmulgee Public Schools.
We are
proud of the accomplishments and progress
the district is making. We are confident
that the District will continue to progress
as we continuously pursue opportunities for
improvements and program enhancements. Our
educational goal is
TO THRIVE AND
NOT JUST SURVIVE.
